James Mulholland Choral Music Fellowship

The James Mulholland Choral Music Fellowship is a $5000 grant, awarded by the American Choral Directors Association, to fund doctoral graduate studies in choral music.  This grant is made possible by a generous gift from Robert and Donna Watkins of Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

Guidelines

Qualifications – The applicant must be an ACDA member and a full-time graduate student enrolled in a doctoral studies program who is seeking a degree in choral conducting or choral music education.

Application Procedure – Applicants must complete the application form and submit it with the following documentation.  An incomplete application will disqualify the applicant. The application must also include the following:

  1. Three letters of recommendation
  2. A ten-minute VHS videotape or DVD showing candidate conducting, either in rehearsal or performance
  3. Vita
  4. Official transcripts from undergraduate and master’s degrees
  5. Official documentation by the Dean of the candidate’s university
    • Verification that the applicant is enrolled
    • Verification that the applicant is seeking a degree in choral conducting or choral music education
    • Verification that the applicant will be a full-time student for the two semester in which the fellowship is applied

Mailing Procedure – Mail application materials to ACDA, P.O. Box 2720, Oklahoma City, OK  73101.  Applications must be postmarked no later than the dated listed on the application form.  All application materials become the property of the American Choral Directors Association and will not be returned to the applicant.

Contest Timetable – To be announced each year on application form.

Contest Judges – The fellowship application will be administered by the ACDA Office in Oklahoma City.  An independent panel will judge all entries submitted.  The decision of the judges is final.

Applications are typically made available in May of each year in Choral Journal and on this web page.
