Links and Sound Clips from "Overtone Singing: The Key to Past Life Melodies"
by Lawrence Wiliford

Note: In order to hear the following examples, you'll need to have RealPlayer on your RealPlayer G2computer. You might already have it, so first try clicking on one of the links to see what happens. If you don't yet have it, a free version is available by clicking on the image to the right (the free version is named "RealPlayer 7 Basic." They will try to get you to buy the "Plus" version for about $30.) These examples won't work if you have an older RealPlayer program, such as version 5.0 or earlier. You must have a more recent version, either RealPlayer 7 or RealPlayer G2.

The numbering of these sound clips differs somewhat from that found in the printed article. Please have the article at hand while visiting this page and the clips described below will make sense.

  • The St. Olaf Choir Web Site
  • American * ("pirate noise")
*IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) symbol (see this link for a site that covers symbols for American English)
  • Clip 1 - - American followed by closed vowel
  • Clip 2 - American followed by (open o)
  • Clip 3 - overtone series starting with perfect fifth
  • Clip 4 - another series, ascending and descending
  • Clip 5 - perfect fifth overtone
  • Clip 6 - descending series (#2 in the CJ)
  • Clip 7 - some overtones using "darker, open vowels"
